Men consider it a matter of personal honor to fulfill obligations to their families and others. They may attribute their failures to external circumstances rather than to personal inadequacies.

When eating at a person’s home, the host will offer several helpings of each dish. As a general rule, the more one eats, the greater the indication of approval.

Men should wear suits and ties in the winter. In the summer, Greeks dress more casually. Wearing a suit will make a good impression, however. Women should wear dresses or suits and heels.

Greeks expect personal contact to be part of a business relationship. They may invite you to meals, take you out in the evening or even pick you up at the airport.

Business associates will invariably offer sweet Greek (never “Turkish”) coffee accompanied by a glass of cold water.
